The Binghamton Junior Senators are a member of the Atlantic Junior A Hockey League (AJHL). The league is located in the North East of the United States.Binghamton, New York is located in a picturesque valley surrounded by rolling hills. We are minutes from Pennsylvania, and only a few hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Cleveland and Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa Canada. In addition to our geographic location, our community of 200,000 people has much to offer - safe neighborhoods, sophisticated health care and top educational facilities, including Binghamton University and Broome Community College. Presently many of our players who are in transition between high school and college are taking some classes at our community college.
We have an excellent coaching staff with years of professional experience (see bio), who are totally dedicated to helping the players reach their goal of moving on to the USHL or playing at the highest level of college hockey.
We try to create an atmosphere conducive to a successful season. Our non-residents are housed with families from the Binghamton community close to the rink. Our players don?t need to spend a lot of time driving to and from the rink, traffic in the area is minimal.
We provide the best care possible for our players with a dedicated medical staff. Thomas Van Gorder, MD is one of the most respected orthopedic surgeons in our area. He also works with our pro hockey team, the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (Ottawa Senators farm team) and the Binghamton Mets double A affiliate of the New York Mets. Mr. Todd Mansfield has a doctorate degree in physical therapy. He established his private rehabilitation clinic in 1986. He is also the physical therapy director for Southern Tier Pain Management and advisor for the center for Pain Relief. His previous experience includes working as a staff physical therapist with the New Jersey Nets of the NBA and the Biofitness of New York. Mr. John Danoesia is a licensed EMT and physical therapist with the state of New York.
Our home games are an event! We draw the biggest crowds of any junior team in the North East, between 700 and 1,000 fans. With the help of our mascot and disc jockey, the atmosphere is electric. If you prefer to sit in comfort during our home games, you can do so in our restaurant overlooking the ice surface. The Binghamton Junior Senators are a big part of the community receiving print and TV coverage.
Due to our proximity to many Division 1 hockey programs (Cornell, Colgate, RPI, Union, Clarkson, St Lawrence, RIT, Niagara and Canisius just to name a few), our players are constantly exposed. The majority of league showcases take place in the Boston area exposing our kids to every school in the New England area. Every Division 1 program in the East has easy access to our team. It is the same for every Division 3 school. Both Divisions are in constant contact with our organization.
In summary, our organization is happy to offer an excellent trained and professional experience, great medical treatment, safe environment, the opportunity of being watched by Division 1 and 3 hockey schools, a chance to take college classes and to play in front of many fans in a family atmosphere.
